When money is allocated for one purpose but then is used for another, is that legit? When members of the Lakewood Police Department (LPD), or, for that matter, board members of the Clover Park School District (CPSD), jet across the country to attend conferences – whether using grant funds or department funds, let alone buy […]

Westside Story – Christmas Angels – 15th Year
On March 5, 2014, I wrote a story titled, Westside Story – Community Christmas Angels.
The two women featured in my story have done it again. On December 12, 2014, The Friends and Family Holiday Give-A-Way was held. Christmas Angels, Joan Eisenhardt and Kathy Sweeney, volunteered for a solid year in their effort to create a joyous Christmas holiday for 500 low income Greater Lakes Mental Health Care clients who suffer from a variety of debilitating mental illness conditions. Greater Lakes, which must be considered a community asset, is located in the City of Lakewood at 9330 – 59th Av SW. T: 253-581-7020.
Westside Story – Grim Reaper – Part V
During Grim Reaper – Part IV (Link) we left off with the Grim Reaper bubbling with excitement as he held me in a headlock with my heart rate sinking to 19.
Somehow I managed to live through the night so the next morning they rolled me towards the operating room. As we drew near, the nurse instructed my wife to sit in the waiting area.
Westside Story – Grim Reaper – Part IV
When we left our suffering hero, Joe Boyle, in the last segment of the award winning series, Grim Reaper – Part III, (LINK) Joe was deciding between 1) following his doctor’s orders to move his half dead body to St. Joseph Emergency Department or 2) making a break for Starbucks it in a state of panic.
Did you notice I slipped into 3rd person?
Westside Story – Grim Reaper – Part III
At the end of Grim Reaper – Part II, (Link) the final paragraph left readers clinging to edge of their computers.
For those of you who missed that riveting final paragraph, I quote, “What happens next is nothing short of amazing. Until Grim Reaper – Part III in this popular series, you should be asking yourself, 1) Does Joe pass out? 2) Does the nurse pass out? 3) Does the EKG start smoking and burst into flames?”

Westside Story – Grim Reaper – Part II
Did you read Grim Reaper – Part I and experience the overpowering feeling that left you begging for more? Well, here is some more titled Grim Reaper – Part II. In Grim Reaper – Part I we left off with the final cliff hanger question, “4) Does Joe die before he can bring you Grim Reaper […]
Westside Story – Grim Reaper – Part I
Two thoughts motivate me to write this story. One, what I have to share could save a life, yours or someone you love. Two, if my story fails to save any lives, it is my hope my tale will be entertaining.
Publisher Ben Scair and I reviewed the oral version of my story, and we both agreed it would be better if I serialized the story in order to tell my tale in bite size pieces.
Let’s start.
Letter: To save 10 minutes, one accident per train crossing in Lakewood every 10 years
According to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Point Defiance Bypass Environmental Assessment (Appendix F: Traffic and Transportation Discipline Report, p.83), “None of the individual crossings are predicted to experience accidents more frequently than one in every 10 years.”
This to save an estimated 10 minutes of Amtrak travel time from Seattle to Portland, and this in spite of proposed safety upgrades.
