Dilly-dallying while traversing a known avalanche funnel is akin to a partial park ban on smoking as is no ban at all.
In hiking, switchbacks are trails with hairpin turns. In railroading, they’re a way to negotiate steep terrain without tunnels. But in communication – as sometimes in mountain climbing – zigzagging, doubling back, doublespeak, and reversing direction can be disastrous.

Were we at the same meeting?
I admit I wasn’t there at the presentation by the Lakewood Parks Department to the City Council during the latter’s study session this past Monday evening, February 10, 2014 during which time discussion was aplenty I’m told on the issue of banning tobacco products in city parks.

THE GOOD – We have many GOOD businesses in Lakewood, such as Safeway, Saar’s Market, Grocery Outlet, Paldo Plaza and the former K-Mart. THE BAD – Some customers, who patronize our GOOD businesses, are THE BAD because of their criminal behavior involving stealing shopping carts.

The board of the Tillicum Woodbrook Neighborhood Association (TWNA) supports the unanimous recommendation of the Lakewood’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to ban tobacco products and electronic cigarettes on park property.
