Pierce Transit announcement.
The Puget Sound is experiencing cold temperatures that are expected to last for several days. To help those who need access to transportation to get out of the cold, Pierce Transit is partnering with the Pierce County Department of Emergency Management to provide free bus or SHUTTLE (for registered SHUTTLE customers) rides to warming centers and shelters.
The free rides are in effect through the end of the day Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, but may be extended if cold weather continues.
The free round trips are available throughout the day and evening for passengers who tell the driver they are traveling to or from a warming center or shelter. For a list of warming center locations and hours, visit pchomeless.org/Facilities/Shelters. Pierce County libraries will also be open during business hours for the public; for a list of library locations visit Piercecountylibrary.org/branches/branch-listing.

Stop using the word “FREE” in your articles! Nothing is “FREE”! These rides are tax payer paid through the sales tax paid by every citizen whether they use Pierce Transit or not. Be honest: these rides are tax payer provided.

No John, the Biden fairy flies in from the other Washington and sprinkles magic dust on those busses, causing them to float down the street with no emissions what so ever.
I heard about it on “The View”.

When I was Deputy Mayor, Lakewood (2006-2007) as a member of the Pierce Transit Commission only about 17% of Transit’s budget was from the fare box. The rest came from Federal and State funding but the vast majority of it was from local sales tax revenue. I suspect the same today. FREE? Not hardly.
