Bates Technical College announcement.
For decades, it’s existed in tabloids found mainly on newsstands and in grocery store checkout lines. But, with the advent of the internet and social media, it’s seemingly grown out of control, so much to the point that it may have played a partial role in the outcome of the 2016 election.Fake news is on the rise and on this edition of Northwest Now, we sit down with Dr. Kate Starbird, a professor at the University of Washington, who has unveiled a study that demonstrates the enormity of this problem. Find out how to spot fake news and what can be done to combat it.Northwest Now is a weekly public affairs program that airs Friday at 7:30 p.m. on KBTC Public Television, a service of Bates Technical College.

Interesting that the University of Washington will have a faculty member describing fake news days after a department group think tank nixed a use of words including “housekeeping, grandfather, see, and man-in-the-middle.” I am ashamed of getting my bachelors there.
Unless this lady paints all aspects of the media, she is just propagating the problem. Both political sides of the media, print, radio and television included, distort the facts to rile up their bases. Social media isn’t much better, though most on social media aren’t getting paid to tear the country apart. We’ll see how this lady paints the situation. If I were Bates, I would not plug this more than likely one sided hit woman unless I knew she was trying to unite the country against information portrayed by all sides. Though Bates could be using this as their political statement.

Well, I checked Ms. Starbirds tweeter and she is a partisan hack. Lecturing people on why the media from one side of the aisle is “spreading false information” or partial truth while ignoring the other side isn’t helping with the political divisiveness that is plaguing this country. Covid, the economy, China, Russia, and climate change aren’t our biggest problems in this country. It’s the divisive nature of all sides of the media. It’s turning us to look at each other as the enemy.
The problem with egomaniacal hacks like Starbird is that they believe that they are “fixing things”. If only everyone thought the way that they think, there would be no problem. Problem is, half the country is never going to think like you. They have different life experiences. When you start forcing them to, or selectively silence the opinions of the other half of the country, there will be push back.
Extremely disappointed in Bates for promoting this divisive drivel. Not shocked that the UW has gone full whacko since I left there. It’s not going to get better until we burn both these universities to the ground (metaphorically speaking) and start over.

It never ceases to amaze me how stupid people can be and act. I’ve always said that it was in God’s plan that Donald Trump wound up as president. This “mistake” should have been a wakeup call to make us think for ourselves not to be led around by the nose.
Can’t anyone read and decide for themselves? I am thankful for the brilliant people in our government who won’t settle for less and hold wrong doers accountable.

A multi-generational segment of folks who are confused about things as clear as gender identity, are probably really confused about most other things.
What’s amazing is how confidently they defend their demented truth.
Good, bad, or ugly – it was Trump who brought the term “fake news” into the modern age. Others have done it since the dawn of civilization.
Now the left will define it for us, and in doing so clarify for us what is truth and what is not.
If you agree with them, you get an “A” and a pat on the head.
I find my truth in real life experiences, using the senses God gave me, and in great writing that has stood the test of time.
