Anderson Island Film Festival Presents Ukraine – Land on the Edge
‘Ukraine: Land On The Edge’ will include a film screening of the Ukrainian film “Winter on Fire,” a powerful story of the Ukrainian people’s fight for freedom and self-determination during the 2014 invasion, and a presentation by University of Washington Fulbright scholar and Ukrainian citizen, Sofiia Fedzhora entitled ‘The Ongoing War Against Ukraine’.
This free event will be held on Saturday, April 30th beginning at 5 pm with a 15 minute presentation on Ukrainian Eggs. This will be followed by an Ukraine inspired box dinner offered at $20 (RSVP). During the dinner hour, Ukrainian pastries and breads will be available to purchase. Proceeds from these sales will be added to the evening’s donations which will be given to Doctors Without Borders for their work in the Ukraine.
Sofiia Fedzhora’s presentation will commence at 6 pm and the film will start at 6:30 followed by a question and answer session led by Ms. Fedzhora. The event will be held at the Anderson Island Historical Society Archival Building, 9306 Otso Point Rd., Anderson Island, WA 98303. Sofiia Fedzhora is a visiting scholar from Ukraine who teaches language in the University of Washington’s Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures. She is very close to the recent events taking place in Ukraine with family and friends still in Ukraine.
Emily Martin, an island resident, will be discussing and exhibiting her Pysanka Easter eggs right before dinner. If you wish dine on the Ukraine inspired box dinner, please RSVP by April 25 at andersonislandfilmfestival@gmail.com. During dinner time there will be available for purchase Ukrainian themed cookies and pastries by Lisa Holmgren of Delish Bakery and Fresh Artisanal Ukrainian inspired bread baked by Kevin Waltz of Island Bread Company.
