TACOMA, Wash. – Prospective Green Tacoma Day volunteers are encouraged to attend a lead-up event on September 26, from 6 – 7 PM, in Wright Park. Green Tacoma Partnership members will conduct a tree tour of Wright Park and share details on how to get involved during Green Tacoma Day, which is scheduled to take place this year on October 12, from 9 AM to noon. The City of Tacoma and the Green Tacoma Partnership will provide tools, gloves, and training as needed. There is no cost to volunteer, everyone is welcome, and no experience is necessary.
There will be 13 different Green Tacoma Day sites to choose from on October 12, where volunteers will plant trees and native species, remove weeds, clean up litter, and connect with others who are passionate about enhancing local green spaces. Locations include qʷiqʷəlut, China Lake, McKinley Overlook, Spanaway Park, Lincoln Heights Park, Adrianna Hess Wetland Park, Clover Park Technical College Flett Outdoor Lab, Browns Point Playfield, 56th and Park Avenue, University of Washington Tacoma Microforest Site, Fabulich Center at the Port of Tacoma, Wright Park, and Swan Creek.
Green Tacoma Day will also feature tree giveaways and tours of the Timber Exhibit at the University of Washington Tacoma’s Milgard Hall.
