Lakewood, WA—Lakewold Gardens is pleased to partner with the 2024 MEXAM NW Festival as a concert organizer and venue. The festival is a month-long celebration of Hispanic and Mexican-American culture curated by the Consulate of Mexico in Seattle. Two of Lakewold’s popular Music from Home series concerts are included as featured events, with Mexico’s National Institute of Fine Arts as an additional partner.
Three musicians from Mexico’s government-sponsored group Concertistas de Bellas Artes will travel to the Pacific Northwest to offer two admission-free performances. Pianist Rodolfo Ritter will offer a solo recital with works by two of Mexico’s foremost composers, Silvestre Revueltas and Manuel Ponce, at the first concert on September 15. Then, on October 6, violinist Manuel Ramos and pianist Carlos Salmerón will perform a chamber music concert of works by Mexican composers including both classical and more popular works. Both concerts are on Sunday afternoons from 3 to 5 pm.
The MEXAM NW Festival is scheduled to coincide with Hispanic Heritage Month each year. The 2024 event runs from September 7 – October 19 and presents a variety of music, arts and cultural events to locations throughout the Puget Sound region. “This festival brings a little taste of Mexico to our region so that our community can experience firsthand the richness of Mexican and Mexican-American culture,” says Curator of Art and Music Ricardo de la Torre. “We are honored to host these talented performers at Lakewold and to be part of such a vibrant event.”
Lakewold’s Music From Home program is a monthly series of intimate chamber music concerts held in the historic Wagner House. For its 2024 season, the theme has been Sounds of the Homelands, with each concert highlighting the music of a particular culture, region or era of music.
Seating for the concerts is limited. Although admission is complimentary for the two MEXAM concerts, patrons should reserve their seats by registering online in advance at lakewoldgardens.org/musicfromhome.
