As they have done every year for more than two decades, U.P. residents turned out in force for National Night Out festivities on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
A caravan of West Pierce Fire & Rescue engines, medic vehicles, U.P. police cars and other public safety vehicles visited 39 neighborhoods throughout the evening, giving residents the opportunity to chat with public safety officials, first responders, City Council members and City staff. But the true stars of the show were Brix and Coda Rainier, the dynamic K-9 duo from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. Accompanied by their handlers Deputy John Munson and Deputy Levi Redding, the dogs wowed the crowds with their skills and good looks.
“I think I speak for all of us on the public safety team when I say that National Night Out is the highlight of our year,” said Jennifer Hales, the City’s public safety director. “It is so fun to see familiar faces, to hear what people are thinking and yes, to enjoy the amazing party spreads these neighbors put out. We all start our diets (again) the next day.”
