DUPONT – Weekend travelers who use Interstate 5 approaching the Nisqually River will want to plan for a series of lane closures.
Southbound
Travelers will see southbound I-5 reduced to one lane at Mounts Road during overnight and early morning hours for pavement repairs. The ramp from Mounts Road to southbound I-5 will also close during the work.
Work schedule:
- 10 p.m. Friday, July 26 until 5 a.m. Saturday, July 27
- 10 p.m. Saturday, July 27 until 10 a.m. Sunday, July 28
During the morning of Sunday, July 28, travelers may see little to no activity in the work zone as concrete is curing.
Northbound
Travelers will see northbound I-5 reduced to two lanes approaching the Nisqually River Bridge. Washington State Department of Transportation bridge crews will make repairs underneath the bridge using a specialized under bridge inspection truck.
Work schedule:
- 5 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28
What to expect:
- Congestion approaching the work zones during early morning hours.
- Significant congestion approaching the work zones during late morning hours Sunday, July 28.
WSDOT needs help from travelers:
- Travel before or after work hours.
- Consider postponing discretionary trips.
- Add extra travel time to help prevent delays especially the morning of Sunday, July 28.
Whenever near work zones please:
- Slow down – drive the posted speeds for worker and traveler safety.
- Be kind – workers are out there helping to keep people safe and improve the roadways.
- Pay attention – both to workers directing travelers and surrounding traffic.
- Stay calm – expect delays, leave early or take alternate routes if possible; no meeting or appointment is worth risking someone’s life.
