Where can you watch a beautiful hula or powerful step team performance and then immediately enjoy some of the best international street foods you’ve been dying to try? MOSAIC: Tacoma’s Arts & Culture Festival features that and more in a celebration of dance, music, art and food from around the world July 27-28 in Wright Park.
“MOSAIC brings people together and demonstrates the cultural richness of our beautiful Tacoma,” said Commissioner Rosie Ayala of Metro Parks’ Board of Directors. “This weekend is the perfect time to join neighbors and meet new friends as we gather to celebrate our diversity.”
Performances from community groups will be held both days on two different stages highlighting traditional art forms from India, Cambodia, Thailand, Guam, Samoa, Tahiti, Hawaii and beyond.
Saturday evening the main stage will host local Blues star Lady A for a high-energy show full of profound storytelling, messages of love and encouragement, and plenty of blues and funk. Sunday brings the return of MOSAIC’s popular Gospel showcase featuring performances by seven different choirs and artists from across the northwest.
MOSAIC also includes a kids’ zone with entertainment created especially for younger festival goers. Enjoy a bounce house, the park’s spray ground and other activities. On Saturday night, stay past sunset for Movie in the Park and watch the 1996 classic Space Jam, rated PG, supported by The Grand Cinema and Coordinated Care.
Other features at this year’s celebration include food trucks offering a wide variety of cuisines and vendor village with more than 100 different booths. Vendors include multicultural artists and crafters, local small business owners and Tacoma community groups, agencies and services.
