TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma community members are invited to attend the June 10 meeting of the Community’s Police Advisory Committee (CPAC) to give comments and feedback on the proposal developed by the Charter Review Committee regarding community oversight of the Tacoma Police Department.
In early May, the Charter Review Committee submitted its full report and recommendations for City Charter amendments to the City Council, which included a recommendation to create an Office of Police Accountability that would report directly to the City Council, to be assisted by a civilian Community Oversight Committee for Policing Accountability. This recommendation and many others are currently before the City Council as they deliberate a potential November ballot measure based on the Charter Review Committee’s work that would update and amend the City Charter.
