Do you have extra books at home? Help us preserve the legacy of four 165-year-old U.S. Army buildings in Lakewood by donating books for an upcoming fundraiser.
All genres of fiction and non-fiction books are welcome, but please make sure they are in good condition (no moldy or torn materials, please!). While we accept VHS, CDs, and DVDs, printed materials are preferred.
Donations can be dropped off at Fort Steilacoom museum from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, or Sunday, April 7, when the buildings are open for tours. If you have a large amount of books, please give us a heads up in advance. Email us at info@historicfortsteilacoom.org for questions or if you can’t make it on those Sundays.
Join us for the book sale on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum. Fort Steilacoom is located by the old Army parade grounds that form the ‘front yard’ of Western State Hospital, 9601 Steilacoom Blvd. SW.
Did you know that this summer marks 175 years since the U.S. military arrived in Puget Sound and established Fort Steilacoom? It’s the only U.S. Army fort of its kind managed and maintained by volunteers, making events like the book sale crucial for its upkeep. For more information, see the Historical Fort Steilacoom Association website.
