In 1958 my parents bought a seven-cabin motel in Ponders Corner. It was the closest motel to Fort Lewis. Many of our customers were soldiers who were brand new to the area and often had their entire families with them. We enjoyed talking with them and listening to their stories. I sometimes played chess with the adults and often my mom bought antiques from the overseas families. By the time my parents sold the motel, there were thirty-two rooms for renting and lots of memories. I still have a beautiful white rabbit from the Black Forest (early 1930s?). Although my parents are gone, I still recognize and appreciate veterans.
When I walked into the hallway for my meeting of the Transportation Club of Tacoma I was immediately met by Thomas Lancaster, the Executive Director of Active Duty Veterans 1st Responders. He was in the dark with a slide show. I promised I would tell the world about Active Duty Veterans and lighten up his image the best I could. His presentation went over well with our members, too. Our club handles more than just shipping for business. Please, take a look at the veterans’ information.
