Three newly elected board members took the oath of office at the Dec. 11 board meeting. Krissy Kim joins as director of district 1, Bryan Thomas joins as director of district 2 and Janet Caldwell joins as director of district 5.
Krissy Kim
Kim has lived with her husband in Lakewood for 15 years and all three of her children attended CPSD schools. Kim currently works as the dean of instruction at Pierce College and earned a bachelor’s degree in human development from Pacific Oaks College, a master’s degree in science of instruction from Drexel University and a Doctor of Education from Northeastern University. As a board member, Kim wants to ensure each child and family feels safe and valued in their schools and sees themselves reflected in curriculum and staff as they learn and grow.
Bryan Thomas
Thomas grew up in Lakewood, attending CPSD schools and graduating from Clover Park High School. Both of his daughters also graduated from Clover Park schools and his sister, Lisa Boyd, served as a long-time principal in the district. Thomas currently works as the chief human resources and administrative officer for O Bee Credit Union and earned a bachelor’s degree in human resources and a master’s degree in human resources and organizational management. Thomas has a history of service to the Lakewood community, including time on the board of directors for Communities in Schools in Lakewood, the Lakewood Public Safety Advisory Committee and the Lakewood Civil Service Commission.
Janet Caldwell
Caldwell is a product of CPSD schools and graduated from Lakes High School. She has lived in the CPSD community for more than 40 years where both of her children attended Mann Middle School before also graduating from Lakes. Caldwell currently works as an employee in the Bethel School District where she supports certificated staff as the Bethel Education Association president. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Washington State University and a master’s degree in educational technology from City University.
