It’s that time of year again: time to get out the rakes and brooms to make sure that the catch basins near your property remain clear of leaves, needles and storm debris to prevent large puddles and ponding on U.P. streets.
The City’s Public Works crews will be out in force in sweeper trucks to do their part to keep storm drains open, but since they can’t cover every street, every day, residents are asked to help out by keeping an eye out for blocked storm drains, especially after particularly heavy rain and/or wind events.
Not only does keeping the drains flowing ensure that U.P.’s stormwater system operates efficiently to transfer stormwater to ponds, streams and Puget Sound, but it also prevents water damage to our city streets.
