The City is hosting a Van Lierop Park Master Plan Open House on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at the Pioneer Park Pavilion from 5 to 7 p.m. There, residents can meet the project team, ask questions, and learn more about the Park Master Plan. At the Open House, the project team will unveil three draft design options for the park. Residents can interact with the design boards and provide feedback on the future vision of Van Lierop Park.
The City is developing a Master Plan for its newest public park, Van Lierop Park. Van Lierop is located in the east valley area of Puyallup, east of Shaw Road, near Farm 12 restaurant. The property is approximately 18 acres in size and was purchased by the City in 2015 with the intention of developing a public park. In 2017, the City hired a consultant to begin working on a Master Plan for Van Lierop.
What is a Master Plan? It is a document that acts as a blueprint for what the park could look like in the years to come. It also determines the potential phases of the project, describing what would be accomplished and forecasting when each phase could be designed, funded, and constructed. Working with the community and stakeholders, staff and the consultant team established and prioritized possible park elements and recommended phases to be completed. The City completed Phase One of the Plan in 2019 and is currently in Phase Two. Phase Two includes the creation of a new playground and other potential amenities.
