City of Tacoma announcement.
TACOMA, Wash. — “Over the last couple of weeks, we have seen a spike in shootings and fatalities and, this morning, a 14-year-old girl was tragically shot and killed. In the face of these ongoing tragedies, I am beyond devastated. I am furious.
While words seem inadequate during times like these, I want the families and every person in our community impacted to know that I stand beside you in your grief. While the Council and I share the heartbreak and frustration of the community, we will not be slowed by it. We are continuing to work to advance initiatives to reduce violent crime, and the Council and I will continue to support, and work with, Police Chief Avery Moore and the Tacoma Police Department to make that happen.
Those interested in hearing a detailed presentation on the City’s Violent Crime Reduction Plan can tune in to the City Council Study Session – Webinar Link: www.zoom.us/j/89496171192 Passcode: 896569 – at noon on July 12 to hear more.
In light of today’s events and in support of Tacoma Ceasefire, I can share that they will be holding a vigil for the family tomorrow evening at 6 PM at the corner of South 19th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way. I invite our community to join the family this evening to grieve in solidarity. ”

Mayor Woodards and Tacoma friends: We are with you. Your pain is ours to share. Mutual cooperation begins with common concern. Let us know when, where and how we can help for safe streets and joyful, thriving neighborhoods.
Brian Borgelt says
Mayor Woodards, look no further than your own failed policies.
Tacoma is a very troubled city that is experiencing severe behavioral issues.
I have listened to you for years, as you drum a message of discontent into our youth, telling them that they are not responsible for their position or outcomes.
I see government program after government program being funded, and special interest groups attacking Constitutional rights, in the name of “fairness”.
Every good parent tells their kids early on that life is not fair, but in America you have a right to try.
Stop breeding discontent and start encouraging personal responsibility.
Only then will you see a decline in psychotic anger.
Chris Lewis says
What Brian said times 10. When you stop blaming the Implement and hold the user accountable then your outcomes will change. I don’t know, how about cleaning up all the trash and Vermin who are living on our streets that might be a good start. we never had any of these problems when we had laws that were enforced and scum were not allowed to sleep on the street and in public parks doing drugs unabated, actually being supplied to them by the taxpayers dollars are you kidding me??? One would think that eventually the Democrat runs cities would get tired of failing year after year after year and maybe make a change but then we all know what the definition of insanity is and that seems to be the Bedrock of the Democrat Party
Billy D. Seamon says
We have people camping on the streets, because the government WON’T provide them shelter and programs to help them get off the streets, BUT……. we CAN afford “Art” projects like giant salmon and metal palm trees that cost many thousands of dollars. That money could go for things like those little houses that they built specifically to house homeless folks. It’s the government’s responsibility to care for those that can’t care for themselves! Instead, our elected officials choose to cut mental health budgets and other programs to help folks like these that are camping out on the streets, and fatten their own wallets so they can get re-elected.
Brian Borgelt says
The government is a gaggle of broke fools who spend other peoples’ money and commit future generations to an ever- growing debt obligation.
We the people have filtered trillions of dollars through government to address every conceivable societal ill.
What have we got to show for it?
A massive if not insurmountable debt, and a drug addicted population of morons who can’t even get their pants down to defecate unless it be on the sidewalk.
A sluggard with a cellphone can get absolutely everything for free these days, simply by becoming an expert on government programs. Even the cellphone is free.
So don’t tell me all this criminal behavior is a result of no support or compassion – quite the opposite.
These slobs should have been spanked and given chores when they were younger.
But instead the Seattle public school system is demanding that we refer to misbehaving miscreants as “Kings”.
You read that right, look it up.
“Excuse me sire, if appears you have soiled yourself again.”
“It would be my honor and privilege to clean that up for you, and escort you back to your tiny castle”.
Gregory Horn says
Mayor Woodard, the blame falls solely on you and your failure to lead. Just drive through Tacoma with your eyes open and you will see. You must have blinders on. We are becoming a mini version of King County and Seattle.
I could tell you some things to do, but you wouldn’t like to hear them.
Scott Anderson says
Love the new Democrat slogan, “we are working to advance initiatives to reduce violent crime.” Woodards and the Council created this mess two years ago. It’s on them. They don’t believe in consequences for nonviolent criminals. When you don’t start punishing people at the lower level, it escalates.
How about, we are going to create initiatives to reduce all crime? Until liberal politicians start supporting law abiding citizens, this mess will continue. Until law abiding citizens stop voting for liberals, this is not going to stop.
