On Aug. 23, our 14-day case rate per 100,000 for July 30-Aug. 12 is 529.3. The 14-day case rate offers the most reliable look at COVID-19 disease burden on Pierce County.
Our hospitalization rate is currently 11.1 per 100,000.
Today, we confirmed 273 COVID-19 cases and 4 new deaths:
- A woman in her 80s from Key Peninsula.
- A man in his 70s from South Hill.
- A woman in her 50s from Bonney Lake.
- A man in his 100s from Central Pierce County.
On Aug. 21 we confirmed 326 cases. On Aug. 22 we confirmed 342 cases.
Today, we reassigned 2 previously reported COVID-19 deaths to other counties. Our totals are 60,015 cases and 646 deaths.
Our case rate is now the highest it’s been during the pandemic and we passed 60,000 total cases. We’re also seeing high rates of serious illness. Our hospitalization rate is close to its peak, and four deaths is four too many. Please get vaccinated if you haven’t, mask up, and take every step you can to protect your family and community.
