A press release from City of Tacoma.
The Tacoma City Council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, August 31 at 5:15 p.m. to hear public comment on the draft Interlocal Agreement (ILA) and draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of Tacoma and Pierce County concerning the proposed annexation of the Manitou Potential Annexation Area.
The 37-acre Manitou area is designated in both the City’s and the County’s comprehensive plans as a Potential Annexation Area. Its annexation to the City is expected and required by the State Growth Management Act, to ensure the most efficient and effective provision of municipal services to support and accommodate the area’s dense urban development.
The City and the County have been working on the Manitou annexation since 2018, through the Interlocal Agreement method as required by State law (i.e., RCW 35.13.470), and have recently completed the negotiation of the ILA and the MOU, at staff level. City and County Councils each will conduct a public hearing to solicit feedback from the community.
The public can attend the Council meeting in person at the Tacoma Municipal Building (747 Market Street, Council Chambers First Floor or on ZOOM (zoom.us/j/89496171192 Passcode: 896569).
To submit written comments can be submitted by email to the City Clerk’s Office at cityclerk@cityoftacoma.org or by mail at 733 Market Street, Room 11, Tacoma, WA 98402, by 4 p.m., Tuesday, August 31, 2021.
