A press release from City of Lakewood.
LAKEWOOD, Washington – The City of Lakewood invites proposals that encourage local tourism and cultural activities. Applications must be filed by 5:00 p.m. on August 23, 2021 to be considered by the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) for grant award consideration.
The funding source is the City’s share of taxes collected on overnight stays at hotels, motels and short‐term rentals, including such activities as AirBNB, bed and breakfasts, RV parks, and other housing and lodging accommodations for periods of time less than 30 days within the City of Lakewood.
Applications can be emailed (preferred) to Manny Cristobal at ecristobal@cityoflakewood.us or submitted at City Hall: 6000 Main Street SW, Lakewood, WA 98498.
“Lakewood has so much to offer: international food, freshwater lakes, gorgeous parks, history & heritage, family-friendly events, and more. The City invites proposals to invite newcomers and create new attractions.”
– Jim Kopriva, Communications Manager
Examples of prior applicants include the Lakewood Historical Society, Lakewold Gardens, Historic Fort Steilacoom Association, the Asia Pacific Cultural Center, the South Sound Sports Commission, and other organizations working to attract tourism and celebrate culture in Lakewood.
An LTAC award permitted the City of Lakewood to create Nearcation.com, a website and corresponding ad campaign to celebrate local attractions and invite tourism to Lakewood. The campaign’s video advertisements celebrate international cuisine, outdoor activities, golf, and historical sites.
K. R.. says
The City of Lakewood should worry about fixing the roads and make traveling to and from your home to freeway, etc. first.
The traffic problem is appalling.
Every main access road needs to be at least 4+ lanes. Sidewalks and one lane routes through construction sites is not good. It’s reverting backwards. The planning did not plan this well at all.
Why worry about enticing tourists to visit?
What a joke. There is nothing here to want to see badly enough that would make sitting dead stopped in a hot work zone worthwhile. Plan to make the traffic flow, City of Lakewood. Worry about showing off some other time when there is something to be proud of. This is not it.
