After crews complete the curb and gutter work on the east side of Martin Luther King Jr. Way from S. 16th St. to S. 13th St. (on Aug. 12), they will start installing curb and gutter on the west side of MLK Jr. Way from S. 19th St. to S. 16th St. In addition, crews will start installing curb and gutter on the west side of Stadium Way, going from Division Ave. to the traction power substation area this week.
The contractor will continue to install signals at the 6th Avenue and MLK Jr. Way intersection and track on the west side of Stadium Way across Division Avenue. Crews will install overhead wire spans on Division Ave to Yakima Ave. On Commerce Street, crews are installing track, curb, gutter, paving and the platform for the Old City Hall Station. On E. 25th Street, crews are installing track, curb and gutter, and paving.
Looking ahead, the contractor will install overhead catenary wires on MLK Jr. Way from S. 19th St. to S. 15th St. and clean rail along Division Avenue, as soon as Aug. 16.

Where
Commerce Street from I-705 to S. 9th Street – southbound lane closure. Crews are installing track, the underground electrical system, curb, gutter, and the platform for the Old City Hall Station. Commerce St. is closed to southbound traffic between I-705 and S. 9th St. The northbound lane is open between S. 7th St. and I-705. Access to driveways and parking lots is maintained, or alternate parking is provided. From I-705, follow the detour north on Stadium Way or take an earlier exit.
Commerce Street from the crosswalk north of the Theater District Station to S. 7th St. – northbound closure during working hours. Crews are installing electrical systems and track on Commerce St. between the crosswalk north of the Theater District Station and S. 7th St. Northbound Commerce St. is closed to thru traffic during working hours (generally 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and open during non-working hours. Access is open to local traffic to access driveways and parking garages/lots.
Stadium Way from Broadway to S. 4th Street – southbound lane closure. Crews are installing track on the west side of Stadium Way across Division Ave. In addition, crews are installing curb and gutter on west side of Stadium Way south of Division Avenue to S. 4th St. Stadium Way is closed to southbound traffic from Broadway to just south of Division Ave. This lane may close as far as S. 4th St. for the curb and gutter work. Northbound Stadium Way is open from I-705 to Tacoma Ave. Access is open to driveways. To exit parking garages on Stadium Way, residents may need to turn left out of the garages and travel north on Stadium Way. Please follow the detour on Tacoma Ave., St. Helens, and Broadway and allow a little extra time to reach your destination – thank you.
Division Avenue from Broadway to Stadium Way – closed to thru traffic. Crews are installing track on the west side of Stadium Way across Division Ave. Division Ave. is closed to thru-traffic from Broadway to Stadium Way, and open to access the driveway on Division Ave. Northbound Stadium Way is open from I-705 to Tacoma Ave. Please follow the detour on Tacoma Ave., St. Helens, and Broadway and allow a little extra time to reach your destination – thank you.
Division Avenue from MLK Jr. Way to Yakima Ave – traffic restrictions. Crews are installing the overhead wire spans on Division Avenue from MLK Jr. Way to Yakima Ave. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Division Ave.
Martin Luther King Jr. Way and 6th Avenue intersection – traffic restrictions. Crews are installing lighting, traffic signals, and foundations for signal poles at the 6th Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Way intersection. The contractor is doing the above ground work for about one more week. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Martin Luther King Jr. Way and 6th Avenue.
Martin Luther King Jr. Way and S. 9th Street intersection – traffic restrictions. Crews are installing lighting, traffic signals, and foundations for signal poles at the St. 9th St. and MLK Jr. Way intersection. Crews will first do the underground work, and then the above ground work. The underground work is expected to last until about Aug 10. Then the contractor will take a break and then return to S. 9th St. for above ground signals work on Aug. 16. Two-way traffic will be maintained on MLK Jr. Way and S. 9th St.
Martin Luther King Jr. Way from S. 16th St. to S. 13th St. – traffic restrictions. Crews are installing curb and gutter on the east side of MLK Jr. Way from S. 16th St. to S. 13th St., and are scheduled to complete this work on Thursday, Aug. 12. Two-way traffic is maintained on MLK Jr. Way. Parking is not available on either side of the street in this area.
Martin Luther King Jr. Way from S. 19th St. to S. 16th St. – traffic restrictions. Crews will start the curb and gutter work on the west side of MLK Jr. Way from S. 19th St. to S. 13th St. as soon as Thursday, Aug 12. Parking will not be available near this work. This week, MLK Jr. Way will be open to two-way traffic in this area. Starting on Monday, Aug. 16, the northbound lane on MLK Jr. Way will be closed from S. 19th St. to S. 15th St. Please follow the detour on S. J St. and allow extra time to reach your destination – thank you.
East 25th Street from E. G St. to McKinley Ave. – street closure. Crews are installing track, and curb and gutter on E. 25th St. from E. G St. to the Operations and Maintenance Facility. E. 25th St. is closed in both directions between E. G St. and McKinley Avenue E. Please follow the detour on Puyallup Avenue – thank you.
East 25th Street from McKinley Ave. to E. J St. – eastbound lane closure. E. 25th St. is closed to eastbound traffic in front of the expanded Operations and Maintenance Facility for track installation, paving, and curb and gutter work. Please follow the detour on Puyallup Ave.
McKinley Ave E. at East 25th St. – intersection closed. Crews will form and pour concrete for an extension of the track slab, called a keyway. This work will start as soon as Monday, August 9 and last about one week. During this time, McKinley Ave. E will be closed at E. 25th St. Please follow the detour on Puyallup Ave.
