TACOMA, Wash. – Tacoma Venues & Events has approved Special Events funding contracts for 2021-2022 totaling $96,000 for 15 organizations to produce events throughout Tacoma. These events are free, all ages events, which reflect many of the diverse communities and cultures throughout the City of Tacoma.
Music, performing arts, youth activities, ethnic traditions, heritage, literary and visual art, environmental and cultural education, food, dance, and other unique arts and cultural opportunities will be presented in multiple neighborhoods through these events.
“The City’s Events & Recognitions Committee shift in funding this year focused the committee on equitably funding events that celebrated the diversity of the people and places throughout Tacoma,” stated committee co-chair, Jessica Johnston. “The panel provided thoughtful consideration and selected an impactful and inspiring variety of high quality events to engage the entire community.”
“Bringing communities together is more important than ever and we could not be more thrilled at the compelling events that will be presented,” said Kala Dralle, Programming & Booking Coordinator, Tacoma Venues & Events. “We are excited these organizations will have the opportunity to use this funding to focus on reducing barriers to participation with vibrant, inclusive, and accessible events.”
Selected applicants receive funding of $2,500 to $10,000 for costs associated with the production of an event (or series of events). Funding is to be used for infrastructure, traffic control, performers, marketing, or other related costs for events that take place between August 2021 and July 2022. A panel reviewed all eligible applications based on merit, equity, community impact and the applicants’ capacity to successfully produce the event (or events). ?
