A press release from City of Puyallup.
Puyallup, WA – The City of Puyallup is proud to announce the official opening and ribbon cutting for the Clarks Creek Park North Outdoor Fitness Station on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 10:00am. Following the ribbon cutting, All Things Fun Sports, in conjunction with the Puyallup Parks and Recreation Department, will be hosting the Celebrate Trails 5k Trail Run/Walk for free on the Puyallup Loop Trail adjacent to the fitness station.
The City of Puyallup was selected as a park improvement grant recipient from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) with support from Niagara Cares, the philanthropic arm of Niagara Bottling LLC, as part of their Perk Your Park Project initiative. With the grant, park and recreation professionals in Puyallup finished installation of the new outdoor fitness equipment in Clarks Creek Park North in May of 2021.
Opportunities to play and recreate outdoors in community spaces like Clarks Creek Park North are vital to connecting children and families to the natural environment, encourage physical activity and ensure the health of our community. In Puyallup, this new outdoor fitness equipment will invite people of all ages to be active and spend time outdoors. PlayCore, a leading company in play and recreation research, programming, and products, recently awarded its Outdoor Adult Fitness National Demonstration Site Award to Clarks Creek Park. The Outdoor Fitness Station offers a variety of aerobic, muscle/strength, core, balance, and flexibility equipment to provide a well-rounded fitness routine. Together, these elements can help individuals of all fitness levels engage in more moderate to vigorous physical activity, while enjoying the health benefits of physical activity. PlayCore’s Adult Outdoor Fitness National Demonstration Site Award to Clarks Creek North cited excellence in thoughtfully aligning evidence-based design best practices to promote physical fitness and activity.
Sarah Harris, Parks & Recreation Director, states that the City of Puyallup is so excited to have received this generous grant from the National Recreation and Parks Association and Niagara Cares and provide this new outdoor fitness equipment in an area adjacent to the popular Puyallup Loop walking trail and offer additional outdoor fitness opportunities to our citizens.
“Local park and recreation professionals serve a vital role in connecting people to the outdoors and physical activity, while also creating more equitable and sustainable communities,” said Kellie May, NRPA vice president of programs and partnerships. Parks are places where everyone can go to be active, healthy and have fun. This park improvement grant provides opportunities for children and families to enjoy the outdoors.”
“We are excited to continue our partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association and expand into communities like Puyallup, where our team members live and work,” said Kristen Venick, director of Niagara Cares. “Our team members enjoyed rolling up their sleeve to help build this outdoor space and we look forward to continuing to provide a space for children and families to stay active and safely enjoy the outdoors.”
