Permit application filed for 90,000-square-foot office/warehouse in Woodbrook neighborhood

A Project Permit Application has been filed with the City of Lakewood Community and Economic Development Department.  Following is a description of the application and the process for review.  The application and listed studies may be reviewed upon request.

APPLICATION NUMBER AND NAME:  LU-20-00211 – Lakewood 90 – SEPA

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project will include the construction of approximate 90,000 square foot office /warehouse use building. New construction of warehouse use building and associated truck and vehicular parking on a vacant 4.28-acre site with utility extension, new landscaping, relocation of power and communication lines to serve cell tower and roadway improvements.  

PROJECT LOCATION: 7402 150th Street SW (Parcel number 0219221168).

ZONING: Industrial Business Park (IBP)

PERMIT APPLICATION DATE: December 1, 2020

DATE APPLICATION DEEMED COMPLETE: December 22, 2020

OTHER PERMITS/PLANS WHICH MAY BE REQUIRED: Site Development Permit, Design Review Permit, Sign Permit, building permit, Mechanical/ Plumbing permits, electrical permit by (Labor and Industries), Water-main Extension and Connection Permits by Lakewood Water District, Sanitary Sewer Extension and Connection Permits by Pierce County Public Utilities, and NPDES permit by Department of Ecology.

OPTIONAL SEPA DNS PROCESS: An Environmental Review will be required pursuant to WAC 197-11-355.  Pursuant to WAC 197-11-355 the City is electing to use the optional DNS process with this notice.  The SEPA threshold determination for this proposal is expected to be a Determination of Non-significance (DNS).  The comment period below may be the only opportunity to comment on the environmental impacts of this proposal.  The proposal may include mitigation measures under applicable codes, and the project review process may incorporate or require mitigation measures regardless of whether an EIS is prepared; and a copy of the subsequent threshold determination for the specific proposal may be obtained upon request. The SEPA determination may be appealed to the City of Lakewood Hearing Examiner within 14 days of the date the SEPA determination becomes final. 

PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD:  December 24, 2020 – January 7, 2021

All persons may provide written comments about the proposal to the City of Lakewood Community and Economic Development Department at 6000 Main Street SW, Lakewood, WA. 98499.  Comments must be received by 5 P.M. on January 7, 2021.Any person wishing to become a party of record or desire a copy of the determination should include the request with their comments.  A party of record may appeal the SEPA determination to the City of Lakewood Hearing Examiner by filing a complete appeal application in accordance with Lakewood Municipal Code 18A.20.400.

    Housing not warehouses Lakewood! And Pierce County council!
    This housing crisis has zero fix county wide. Lakewood has a very large portion of the county’s pending displaced families.
    It’s disgusting how little attention this is receiving, but thank God Lakewood got 2 Dutch Bros and a Chick Fil A now?!

    I’m being displaced Buy warehouse don’t know where I’m going how long is going to be before I have to go I’m work hard I pay my taxes it’s a sad thing I put the warehouse and you did make sure we had a place to stay

      Any update on your relocation assistance from the city? Where are officials offering to help displaced folks move to?
      Appreciate any new info.

    I live down the street from where, the woodbrook school use to be. I understand as a renter myself, the need for housing for low wage earners, folks on section 8, and fixed income. However, l welcome the jobs and career opportunity these logistic centers will bring to this community. I have lived here going on eight years, in one of the apartment complex across from several old and run down trailer parks. The trash and funiture thrown in the streets as people move in and out these units is unacceptable. So yes I for one vote for more businesses to build here. While raising the standard of living in a section of Lakewood that was rotting and wasting away. Thanks ??

      Great points. I’m just not sure where the improved affordable housing is in the City of Lakewood’s plan?
      You mention section 8 areas. I was more thinking of townhomes that could be bought but not rented.
      It would be night to have things better planned out, not piece mealed like Lakewood continues to do.
      Lakewood can’t have expensive housing, minimum wage jobs galore, and expect the community members to have any disposable income left over at the end of each month to spend in Lakewood businesses.
      It’s greed over sound economics.
