I attended the Tillicum/Woodbrook Community Neighborhood meeting on Thursday night to oppose the proposed CPSD levy which was being presented by District staff.
It was disclosed that starting base teacher pay in the CPSD is slightly more than $53,000 per year. That does not include insurance and retirement benefits which greatly increases the benefit.
Teachers only work 1350 hours per year so starting base teacher pay in CPSD equals $39.75 per hour.
I Googled what the average income in the City of Lakewood is which revealed an annual salary of $48,000 per year which equals $23.00 per hour in a 2080 hour work year.
Teachers not only earn more per year but are close to doubling the average hourly income of those who live in the District and support the District with their tax dollars.
I for one do not feel the District has been a good steward of our tax dollars when they are willing to pay teachers a minimum 43% more than the average counterpart in the community.
Keep in mind this is starting teacher pay and NOT an average teacher pay. We always hear teachers are underpaid, however they clearly earn a reasonable and livable starting wage.
We should not allow ourselves to be scammed by the teacher union or the District.
Vote “NO” in February 2020 and oppose the proposed CPSD levy. If you too oppose the levy please join me on December 9 at the next CPSD Board Meeting.Print This Post
