Everyone is invited to the city of Lakewood’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting and holiday festivities on Saturday Dec. 7, 2019.
The fun kicks off at 1 p.m. at Lakewood City Hall (6000 Main Street SW) and runs until 7:30 p.m.
Shoppers in search of the perfect holiday gift are sure to find what they’re looking for from the Candy Cane Lane holiday market, which will be set up around the fountain in front of City Hall.
There will be live entertainment inside and out, food trucks and Entertainment Masters will be under a large tent with carnival games for children of all ages. There will also be kids’ karaoke, and new this year a scavenger hunt for kids and families to collect prizes along the way.
Bring the kids to meet Santa. There will be two chances to snap pictures with the big man himself: 1 to 2:30 p.m. and again from 5 to 6:30 p.m. (Bring your own camera).
For children who love LEGOs, the city is again partnering with Bricks 4 Kidz Tacoma to offer a LEGO building contest. Children ages 5 to 15+ use their own bricks to build their creations, then bring to City Hall to be displayed and judged. Winners will be selected for each age group. Find registration information and more details.
Are you a runner? Or maybe prefer to walk? This year the Jingle Bell Dash will “run” from Park Lodge Elementary School half a mile to City Hall. The run starts at 3:45 p.m. with the costume contest awards given out right before. Costumes for participants of all ages (and pets!) are strongly encouraged. The Dash is free but the city requests people register online.
Immediately following the run the Parade of Lights will commence at 4 p.m. Participants will travel down Gravelly Lake Drive from Park Lodge Elementary School, turn left onto Main Street and continue through the roundabout directly in front of City Hall.
Spectators are encouraged to line the parade route early to claim your spot and cheer on your neighbors and friends as they march in this event. Applications for parade entries will be accepted until Nov. 25 and can be found on the city’s website.
At the conclusion of the parade the crowd will gather around the Christmas tree at the center of the roundabout and help countdown to the lighting. Festivities will continue until 7:30 p.m.
