The Holidays are right around the corner which means it is time to mark your calendars for Friday, Dec. 6 when the annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremonies return to Village Square. This has become one of U.P.’s most cherished traditions and one you won’t want to miss.
The festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m. with performances by local school groups that will continue until 7 p.m. At 5 p.m. the man of the month, Santa Claus, will arrive on a West Pierce Fire & Rescue vehicle. He will proceed to the Civic Building Atrium for photos until 7:30 p.m.
At 6 p.m., Mayor Kent Keel will start the countdown to the lighting of the City’s iconic Christmas Tree, considered to be one of the best holiday trees in the South Sound.
This year’s event will feature a special presentation of holiday music from 5 to 7 p.m., performed live on the Grand Piano in the Atrium by pianist John Phillips. There will also be face painting and other fun activities for the kids. And amid all the festivities, Snak-n-Go by Entertainment Masters will be on hand to provide yummy treats and hot eats, while Tastyz Kettle Corn will be popping up sweet Kettle Corn. Grab a coffee or hot chocolate and warm yourself by the outdoor fire. When the fun winds down at 7 p.m., pop in to one of many of the local businesses and enjoy some festive food and spirits.
Don’t miss this special night in University Place. It’s a great opportunity to meet your neighbors, connect with your City Council members and catch the holiday spirit!
