Sip and Paint: French Impressionism with Artist Valerie Collymore

Thursday, December 12, 5:30 pm

Join us to sip on wine, and nibble on appetizers while trying your hand at impressionist brushstrokes! Examine the intricate works of art in Monet, Renoir, Degas, and Their Circle: French Impressionism and the Northwest exhibition with professional artist Valerie Collymore. Then create your own impressionist-style artwork, learning impressionist painting techniques Collymore.

Valerie Collymore is a full-time oil painting artist who is passionate about the French Impressionist tradition. She exhibits her work in galleries and prestigious national juried shows, and teaches the science behind art and techniques of the French Impressionists.

Having grown up in the south of France, where many of the original French Impressionists painted, this artist’s work brings with it an authenticity gained through the intimate knowledge of the unique landscapes and seascapes of the French Riviera and Provence.

Most works from Collymore’s last 6 annual solo exhibits in Seattle have found homes with collectors, and her workshops and classes – including chateau-based workshops in France – during the last 3 years usually sell out.

Star Wars at TAM

Thursday December 12, 2019, 6 pm

Star Wars™ designer, Colin Cantwell, was the original concept artist and modeler for all things that flew in the first Star Wars™ movie, Star Wars Episode IV – A New Hope™. His designs include the X-Wing™, TIE Fighter™, Death Star™, Star Destroyer™, original Millennium Falcon™, Y-Wing™ and others. Developing the process of ‘kitbashing’, Cantwell revolutionized the modeling industry for cinema by tearing apart model kits of cars, boats and planes and re-constructing the pieces into objects.

We are thrilled to present Colin Cantwell and his partner Sierra Dall in conversation at Tacoma Art Museum for the first time – just before the December release of Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi™. Are you in need that perfect holiday gift? Cantwell will sign copies of his Star Wars™ spaceship concept art after the presentation.

Cost: Free for Members, $10 general public
