The Shanaman Sports Museum of Tacoma-Pierce County will enhance its substantial online library thanks to recent grants.
The Ben B. Cheney Foundation recently approved a $9,000 grant to support writing of descriptions for thousands of historical photos, game programs and other artifacts available to view at www.tacomasportsmuseum.com.
Additionally, a $5,000 grant from the Pierce County Historic Preservation Society and a grant from Tacoma South Sound Sports, will help cover the project’s expenses as sportswriters are already at work adding more details to the digital history.
Sports fans and local history aficionados can view these artifacts and the growing compilation of narrative descriptions in the Collections section atwww.tacomasportsmuseum.com. In this Collections area, there are multiple ways to search for artifacts by type, by person, by sport and more. Images feature local Olympic Games athletes, professional sports stars from Tacoma, and many college games and events.
There are more than 3,000 photos, some that date back more than a century, and another 2,000-plus digitized artifacts. The narrative project allows the Museum to bring these archives and their subjects to life in a way that is freely accessible and sharable with the entire community and beyond.
The grant from the Cheney Foundation extends long-time support that dates back to the creation of the Museum in the 1980s.Print This Post
