Nighttime I-5 ramp and lane closures in Tacoma scheduled for first week of March

TACOMA – Contractor crews building a new southbound Interstate 5 Puyallup River Bridge in Tacoma have several overnight ramp and lane closures scheduled for the first week of March. The closures allow crews to create temporary work zones for the upcoming removal of the East L Street overpass.

Overnight drivers are advised to be prepared for multiple lane closures on I-5 from 54th Avenue East in Fife to South 48th Street in Tacoma, and on eastbound State Route 16 near South Sprague Avenue.

Overnight closures

Monday, March 4

  • Northbound I-5 exit 132 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Tuesday.
  • Northbound I-5 exit to Portland Avenue will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Tuesday.
  • Southbound I-5 exit 135 to Bay Street will close from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday.
  • Up to three lanes of southbound I-5 will close from 54th Avenue in Fife to McKinley Way in Tacoma from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Tuesday, March 5

  • SR 167 on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
  • Portland Avenue/27th Street on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday.
  • Northbound I-5 exit to Portland Avenue will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Wednesday.
  • Southbound I-5 exit 132A to South 38th Street will close from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday. Drivers on southbound I-5 will detour to the South 56th Street interchange, back to northbound I-5, and proceed to exit 132.
  • Up to three lanes of southbound I-5 will close from 54th Avenue in Fife to McKinley Way in Tacoma from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Wednesday, March 6

  • SR 167 on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
  • Portland Avenue/27th Street on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday.
  • Two lanes of northbound I-5 near 48th Street will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday.
  • Southbound I-5 exit 132A to South 38th Street will close from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday. Drivers on southbound I-5 will detour to the South 56th Street interchange, back to northbound I-5, and proceed to exit 132.
  • Up to three lanes of southbound I-5 will close from 54th Avenue in Fife to McKinley Way in Tacoma from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday.

Thursday, March 7

  • One lane of northbound I-5 will close from McKinley Way to 28th Street from 10:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. Friday.
  • Northbound I-5 exit 133 to Tacoma’s city center will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Friday.
  • South 38th Street on-ramp to northbound I-5, I-705 and SR 7 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Friday.
  • Southbound I-5 exit 132A to South 38th Street will close from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday. Drivers on southbound I-5 will detour to the South 56th Street interchange, back to northbound I-5, and proceed to exit 132.
  • Two lanes of southbound I-5 will close from Port of Tacoma Road to McKinley Way from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday.

Friday, March 8

  • Southbound I-5 exit 132A to South 38th Street will close from 11:59 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday. Drivers on southbound I-5 will detour to the South 56th Street interchange, back to northbound I-5, and proceed to exit 132.
  • Northbound I-5 exit 133 to Tacoma’s city center will close from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday.
  • South 38th Street on-ramp to northbound I-5, I-705 and SR 7 will close from 11:59 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday.
  • Two lanes of southbound I-5 will close from Port of Tacoma Road to McKinley Way from 11:59 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday.
  • One lane of northbound I-5 will close from McKinley Way to 28th Street from 11:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday.
