LAKEWOOD, WASH—Clover Park School District Board of Directors selected Ron Banner as superintendent designee at its special board meeting today.
Banner, who currently serves as deputy superintendent, will begin his superintendent duties July 1. His mission to support student success focuses on quality instruction and learning environments, as well as strong community engagement and partnerships.
“It is an honor to be selected superintendent,” Banner said. “My goal has always been to ensure that young people grow into and thrive as citizens of their community and receive the same education I expect for my own children.”
Banner has more than 23 years of experience in education and educational leadership. He served as a history and health and fitness teacher for eight years in Rochester School District before coming to the district in 2003 as an assistant principal. He then served as principal of Southgate Elementary School for one year and principal of Mann Middle School for eight years. He was assistant superintendent for elementary schools for three years before advancing to the role of deputy superintendent.
“We are excited to work with an experienced and community-focused leader who will advance our strategic goals in support of student learning,” Board President Marty Schafer said.
The board had the unique opportunity to consider two highly qualified educational leaders from within the school district who have had a significant impact on student growth.
“Both candidates are qualified to step into the role of superintendent,” Schafer said. “Board members brought diverse perspectives and engaged in a thoughtful, transparent and well-researched process, which helped us make a unified decision. Ultimately, the board chose the candidate it thought would provide the best fit in moving our district forward.”
Banner holds a Bachelor of Science from Washington State University, Master in Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University and principal certification from University of Puget Sound
Banner will replace Dr. Douglas Kernutt, who is serving as interim superintendent for the 2018-19 school year.
