The City of Lakewood, 6000 Main Street SW, Lakewood, WA 98499-5027, is seeking coverage under the Washington State Department of Ecology Aquatic Plant and Algae Management NPDES and State Waste Discharge General Permit.
The proposed project applies to following geographical area: Waughop Lake in Lakewood, WA.
The permit allows the discharge of a specific list of pesticides provided permit conditions are met, however the pesticides currently anticipated for use are: None. The City of Lakewood is not proposing to conduct an herbicide treatment in the lake.
The permit also allows for the control of phosphorus via the addition of aluminum sulfate and sodium aluminate, which are not pesticides. The City is proposing to treat Waughop Lake with alum to inactivate phosphorus in the lake, as the accumulation of phosphorus in the lake sediments is resulting in harmful algal blooms.
Any person desiring to present their views to Ecology regarding this application may do so in writing within thirty days of the last date of publication of this notice.
