Carli Jo is a military-connected student in her first year at Mann. In that short time, she has jumped into sports and leadership opportunities. She plays three sports and is an ASB representative.
Diagnosed with scoliosis three years ago, she doesn’t let a back brace dampen her spirits or get in the way of achieving her goals. She follows a strict regimen and is proud she was selected for varsity basketball and soccer.
Soccer is her favorite sport. She admires U.S. professional soccer player, Alex Morgan, for not letting adversity stand in her way, being a good teammate and earning a gold medal.
Carli Jo also strives to demonstrate determination and a strong work ethic in everything she does.
Her favorite subjects are English and math. She likes to write essays that express her thoughts—of course, her favorite topic is soccer!
“Math is a little more challenging, and I feel good when I get it,” she said. “It builds your confidence.” She learns by doing, and her math teacher Mr. Kelly helps with her learning style by stepping through the problems with her.
Carli Jo is interested in becoming a radiologist or a professional soccer player.
