I-5 ramp and lane closures pick up again after snow delay in Tacoma

TACOMA – Over the next two weeks, construction crews will begin installing signs and restriping Interstate 5 between East L Street and Port of Tacoma Road to create a median work zone as weather allows. Overnight drivers should be prepared for multiple lane closures on I-5 from 54th Avenue East in Fife to South 48th Street in Tacoma, and on eastbound State Route 16 near South Sprague Avenue.

Overnight ramp closures

Saturday, Feb. 16

  • Southbound I-5 exit to South 38th Street using exit 132A will close from 11:59 p.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday. Drivers on southbound I-5 will detour to the South 56th Street interchange, back to northbound I-5, and proceed to exit 132.

Monday, Feb.18

  • Northbound I-5 exit 134 to Portland Avenue will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Tuesday, Feb. 19

  • Northbound I-5 exit 134 to Portland Avenue will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Wednesday.
  • Southbound I-5 exit to South 38th Street using exit 132A will close from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday. Drivers on southbound I-5 will detour to the South 56th Street interchange, back to northbound I-5, and proceed to exit 132.

Wednesday, Feb. 20

  • Southbound I-5 exit to South 38th Street using exit 132A will close from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday. Drivers on southbound I-5 will detour to the South 56th Street interchange, back to northbound I-5, and proceed to exit 132.

Friday, Feb. 22

  • Southbound I-5 exit 135 to SR 167/Bay Street/ Portland Avenue will close from 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday.
  • SR 167 on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 11:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
  • East 27th Street/Portland Avenue on-ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 11:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday.
