February ushers in new construction project, new ramp closures in Tacoma?

February 3, 2019 By Washington State DOT

TACOMA –Starting this weekend and through next week, contractor crews building direct connect HOV lanes between Interstate 5 and State Route 16 will close the southbound I-5 exit 132A to South 38th Street for concrete paving and drainage work on a new southbound I-5 alignment.

During this closure, drivers on southbound I-5 will detour to the South 56th Street interchange, back to northbound I-5, and proceed to exit 132.

In addition, the contractor building a new southbound I-5 bridge across the Puyallup River will have overnight lane and ramp closures on southbound I-5 from Port of Tacoma Road to East L Street.

On Wednesday, Feb. 6 and Thursday, Feb. 7, crews will close one lane of eastbound Wiley Avenue from F Street to L Street, and one lane of westbound 27th Street from N Street to L Street each night from 8 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. the following day. The single lane closure allows crews to re-stripe and create a work zone near intersection of East L Street and Wiley Avenue/27th Street.

Regardless of Punxsutawney Phil’s weather predictions, there is cold weather in the forecast. Drivers are reminded to reduce their speed through work zones and drive for conditions.
