Overnight I-5 ramp and lane closures continue for HOV construction in Tacoma

January 25, 2019 By Washington State DOT

TACOMA – Overnight ramp closures from State Route 16 to southbound Interstate 5 will continue Friday through Jan. 29 for drainage work. Contractor crews are preparing for an upcoming traffic shift and the next phase of construction that focuses on realigning the collector/distributor lane from eastbound SR 16 to southbound I-5.

During these closures, drivers will detour to the northbound I-5 collector/distributor to southbound SR 7, to East 38th Street, back to northbound SR 7 and to southbound I-5.

On Saturday night, Jan. 26, crews will reduce southbound I-5 to a single lane at the Pacific Avenue overpass starting at 10 p.m. From midnight to 5 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, a single lane of traffic will detour through exit 132 A, and back to southbound I-5. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Sunday. The lane closures are for striping activities, which is weather dependent work.

Drivers are reminded to reduce their speed through work zones and drive for conditions.
