Kilduff Brings Back Military Spouse Employment Bill for 2019 Legislative Session

January 23, 2019 By The Suburban Times

Submitted by Washington House Democrats.

Despite the strong economy in much of Washington state, spouses of active duty soldiers suffer from a higher rate of unemployment than the rest of the state. Even when taking into account spouses who choose not to work, the issue is a problem that Rep. Christine Kilduff, D-University Place, addresses in legislation that returns from the 2018 session.

Her bill, HB 1328, helps remove workplace barriers, promotes job opportunities for military spouses by fostering greater awareness of job opportunities, and directs state agencies to conduct employment awareness campaigns, at no additional costs to taxpayers.

“The sacrifice of military service should not include difficulty finding work for spouses. We ask so much of our military families, the least we can do is ensure they have a fair chance to find a job if they so choose,” said Kilduff. “I am proud to submit this bill to the House for consideration because the valuable skills and abilities of our military spouses should not be left out of the workforce.”

HB 1328 has been referred to the Housing, Community Development & Veterans for hearing.

Shouldn’t the above say “Despite the strong economy in much of Washington state, spouses of active duty soldiers suffer from a higher rate of UNemployment than the rest of the state”?
