We met our friends this side of the Narrows Bridge and traveled together to Purdy for breakfast at The Floatation Device Pub & Grill. http://thefloatationdevice.com/
“The Float” as it’s called is a sports bar, but more importantly it’s a football bar. There are life-sized statues out front of a troll and a bear. The troll wears a Seahawks outfit. The pub is located just west of the WestWynd Motel and yards away from Burley Lagoon.
It was a little cool when we arrived at 8:45. I was surprised when Peg ordered pancakes. I made pancakes last week for her, and she was ready for more. She likes them with butter and jam. Bacon came with her order. She gave me a slice and we shared an order of hash browns, which were delivered perfectly cooked (dark brown and crispy).
I ordered the Captain’s Waffle with butter and syrup. Since Peg had bacon with her pancakes, I ordered the sausages with my waffle. This was a mistake. I will learn from my error. Next time I will order the waffle with sausages, which I will share with Peg and an extra order (2 links) just for me. THEY WERE DELICIOUS!!!! They were cooked perfectly as was the bacon, the waffle, and the pancakes.
There are numerous video screens, football images, other sports images, and helmets from each of the NFL teams. The staff is friendly, and service is quick, by the time we left the restaurant was just the right temperature.

Even when you report incognito, they musta known you were coming. Usually lousy service. Dinners can be real hit and miss. Seahawk chicken compares with Loose Wheel. Pretty decent. Lemme take you to dinner sometime. You will see there true colors!

Sometimes it seems like most service is hit and miss. We are willing to put up with that depending on the attitude of the wait staff . . . a friendly smile and a welcoming word or two can win our hearts. Loose wheel just always seems too busy to bother. I always say neve turn down a free meal . . .
thanks for writing and sharing.

Pat,
Thanks for writing in. We have a little group that goes out to breakfast most Sundays for breakfast. We’ve known each other for years and we enjoy good food, so we have our regular stops from North Tacoma to Hawks Prairie, Spanaway, Puyallup, Gig Harbor, Sumner, and Purdy. My parents used to own a place on Burley Lagoon, so I feel a kinship for the area. We always laugh, have a good time and enjoy the food at The Float. We will return. On Sunday it sounded like my wife’s glass exploded, but she just missed the table evidently. Anyway, glad we can help I added the review to several of my FB pages including https://www.facebook.com/Tacoma-Restaurants-1396606040422288/ – you might want to go there and comment as well!

I wish you would go back and talk with some of the regulars. Pat Furman owns The Float and gives back so much to the entire community. Before Prom kids get dinner there and chauffeured to their dances. Veterans and teachers when they were on strike have all benefited from his big heart. If you have a child or grandchild that plays sports you tell Pat and he goes to their game to show his support. Just a class act.

Love that about Pat he cares about the community and helps out wherever he can!!
As far as High School sports he supports both Tide and Seahawks athletes so all are welcomed!
It’s the best sports bar in Gig Harbor, the food is awesome the atmosphere is always good and Pat treats all his customers like family! I highly recommend the Float to anyone!!!

I agree the Float is the best Sports Bar in Gig Harbor!
Pat not only supports Tides and Seahawks athletic programs but he is willing to help in the community whenever needed!
The food is great, the atmosphere is like no other and Pat treats all his customers like family, can’t ask for a better sports bar on this side of the bridge!

Scott,
Thanks for reading and writing. I like the comments about community. There is a drive-in in Puyallup called Don’s that used to offer pie and soup and burgers. Tips went to schools. We went there for years. They sold and the new owners dropped the pies and the soups and the tips for the schools. We stopped going and so did their other loyal customers. I like restaurants that support local schools . . . it just screams “family” and “friendly.” Of course good food is important as well, but The Float has that covered.
Thanks for sharing.
