More overnight SR 16 ramp closures scheduled in Tacoma for week of Jan. 21

TACOMA – Overnight ramp closures from State Route 16 to Interstate 5 continue the week of Jan. 21 as contractor crews advance work on new HOV lanes and a new alignment of southbound I-5.

Design-build contractor Skanska will continue to close the eastbound SR 16 ramp to southbound I-5 each night for drainage work. Drivers will detour to the northbound I-5 collector/distributor to southbound SR 7, to East 38th Street and back to northbound SR 7 to southbound I-5.

Drivers are reminded to reduce their speed through work zones and drive for conditions.

Overnight ramp and lane closures

  • Single lane closures are scheduled all week in both directions of I-5 between South 48th Street and East L Street.

Friday, Jan. 18

  • Eastbound SR 16 ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday.

Saturday, Jan. 19

  • Eastbound SR 16 ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday.

Monday, Jan. 21

  • Pacific Avenue, I-705 and State Route 7 ramps to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Northbound I-5 collector/distributor ramp to I-705 and SR 7 will close from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Tuesday, Jan. 22

  • Eastbound SR 16 ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Wednesday, Jan. 23

  • Eastbound SR 16 ramp to northbound I-5 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday.
  • I-705, Pacific Avenue and SR 7 ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday.

Thursday, Jan. 24

  • Eastbound SR 16 ramp to northbound I-5 will close from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Friday.
  • I-705, Pacific Avenue and SR 7 ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday.

Friday, Jan. 25

  • Eastbound SR 16 ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Saturday.

Saturday, Jan. 26

  • Eastbound SR 16 ramp to southbound I-5 will close from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday.

Overnight closure of South Tacoma Way

Skanska will close a section of South Tacoma Way near SR 16 during overnight hours from Tuesday, Jan. 22 through Friday, Jan. 25, for fire suppression system testing and removal of temporary formwork. During the closure, a signed detour will be in place. Closure hours are:

  • Tuesday, Jan. 22 – Thursday, Jan. 24 –  9 p.m. to 4 a.m. each following day.
  • 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 to 7 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26.
