Colby Davies named Steilacoom High School Alumni of the Year

January 10, 2019 By The Suburban Times

This year’s winner of the Steilacoom Historical Education Foundation (SHEF) distinguished alumni award is Mr. Colby Davies. This award is given annually to a graduate of Steilacoom High School who is recognized by members of the community for their accomplishments and service to others. The goal of the award is to honor those who have given back to the community and provide a role model for current students.

Colby attended Steilacoom Historical School District from kindergarten through his graduation from Steilacoom High School in 2005. He attended Western Washington University, playing football there for one year and then transferring to Pacific Lutheran University to continue his collegiate football career. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science followed by a Master’s Degree in Education.

Colby worked as a Special Education paraeducator for Steilacoom Historical School District for 2 years and was hired as a Steilacoom High PE teacher in 2017. He has coached many sports since 2011 and midway through the 2017 Steilacoom High football season stepped up to Head Coach, leading the Sentinels to the 2A SPSL League Championship. In 2018, Coach Davies led the Sentinels to a repeat as Division Champs, holding out as the only undefeated Pierce County team entering the final week of the season and qualifying for the state playoffs.

Colby Davies serves as a great role model for all students and is a respected staff member and coach. In the words of one of his players, “he is more than just a coach, he is a friend to his players.”

Colby was recognized as the 2018 Distinguished Alum at the Steilacoom High School Alumni Basketball Game half-time, which was held Saturday, December 29, 2018.
