Can a link be made available showing current code and proposed amendments?
Brynn Grimley says
Yes, David. I just uploaded two versions of the sign code — one with the track edits shown and then a “clean” version which doesn’t show the track edits and instead just the proposed amendments. You can find them here: www.cityoflakewood.us/home/city-council/2014-12-05-20-54-26/2291-notice-of-public-hearing-2018-sign-code-update-september-19-2018-at-6-30-pm

A copy of the application materials is available for inspection in the Community & Economic Development Department at Lakewood City Hall, 6000 Main Street SW, Lakewood, Washington. The staff report will be available for inspection as well at least five calendar days prior to the public hearing.
For further information, please contact Courtney Brunell, Planning Manager, City of Lakewood, 6000 Main Street, Lakewood, WA 98499; (253) 983-7839; ccasady@cityoflakewood.us.

I saw, and read, that too. But it still doesn’t serve in an expedited way – as a link would – to the no-doubt (somewhere) actual existing document that lines-out the changes the amendments would propose.
Ken Karch, PE says
Agree with Mr. Anderson’s comments. The reference to “application materials” is devoid of reference to actual changes in the rules. If it’s a rule change, it should be easily provided in electronic form on the web site.
Beyond that, having a staff report available only five days prior to the hearing, which will close for written comments at the end of the hearing day, is not good practice for a council which wishes to be “customer friendly.”

My comment also- the only way to find out the proposed changes is to physically go there? We need a report if this online.
Chris says
I agree–we should be able to access the proposed changes online. Those of us with business are generally busy running those businesses, and any time out of the office is time we could be spending serving our clients.
Of course, I’m writing this from home because I’m on vacation this week…:)

Per the City’s website: “For further information, please contact Courtney Brunell, Planning Manager, City of Lakewood, ccasady@cityoflakewood.us,” I sent the following email this morning: “Is it possible, to have sent electronically by attachment to my email address the document that lines-out the changes the amendments would propose for the Sign Code?”
If and when I receive it, I’ll post it here.
Those of you with similar concerns that an expedited link should be made available here in this publication where 16,000 readers would thus have ready access to peruse this document at their leisure, might want to send a similar request.
Whoever gets it first, please be so kind as to make it available to the rest of us.
Thank you.

All, please find the updated link here with two versions of the sign code — one that shows it with the track edits and the other a “clean” copy that shows the proposed amendments only.
www.cityoflakewood.us/home/city-council/2014-12-05-20-54-26/2291-notice-of-public-hearing-2018-sign-code-update-september-19-2018-at-6-30-pm
The staff report is yet not complete, but will be available by Sept. 14 at the latest as stated.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention that the information was not posted online. We hope this helps you review the proposed changes without having to come to city hall to read a hard copy.
Further questions about the proposed changes should be directed to Planning Manager Courtney Brunell, cbrunell@cityoflakewood.us (please note the email address, which is different from the address listed prior. That too has been corrected on the city’s website).
Thank you,
Brynn, Lakewood Communications Manager
