What’s on your reading list for 2017?
Lakewood Historical Society has a few suggestions for those interested in learning more about local history.
For starters there’s Old News is Good News, a special anniversary collection of some of the best articles to appear in Prairie Gazette, the LHS newsletter. The booklet, two volumes now, has 24 illustrated pages. costs only $5, and is available at the Museum. LHS, located at 6211 Mt. Tacoma Drive in the Lakewood Colonial Center. is open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
Other books about local history include two by Steve Dunkelberger and Walter Neary, Lakewood Heroes and Images of Lakewood. Alan Archambault has two books about Fort Lewis, and there’s also Nancy Covert’s book about Lake City and Tillicum.
For historical researchers the museum also has limited copies of the Lakewood Log, Lakewood’s first newspaper, and the Suburban Times. There also are complete sets of yearbooks from Clover Park High School and Lakes High School.
