Fort Steilacoom Park will go to the dogs on Saturday, July 23. For 26 years, the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County has hosted the Dog-A-Thon, a pet celebration and pledge walk that raises funds for food, shelter, veterinary care, rehabilitation from cruelty and neglect, and many other essential services for thousands of shelter pets.
Presented by Larson Automotive Group, the Dog-A-Thon, which runs from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, has something for everyone. From scenic trail walks, vendor booths, and microchipping to a Doggie Wet T-Shirt Contest, Adoptable Pet Parade, and working dog demonstrations, this is the premier pet event of the South Sound.
Dog-A-Thon participants are asked to raise pledges for the annual walk. Pledge forms are available at the Humane Society, 2608 Center Street in Tacoma, or by visiting www.thehumanesociety.org/get-involved/dog-a-thon-2016/.
In 2015, the Humane Society’s Annual Walk for Homeless Pets brought in more than $303,000, which helped the shelter find loving homes for more than 6,000 pets, reunite thousands more with their owners, and provide enrichment activities for shelter animals during their stay.
