James Osier of Lakewood is among 70 students worldwide who have been selected to participate in the Four Star Leadership program, July 9-15 in Hobart, Oklahoma. Four Star Leadership with General Tommy Franks is a free summer leadership program that provides students with both classroom and one-on-one experiences with respected leaders.
Osier, a student at Lakes High School, was chosen due to his demonstrated leadership abilities and outstanding character.
During the program Osier will be hosted on the Oklahoma Christian University campus in Edmond, Oklahoma, and will travel on various excursions across the state where he will meet and engage with national and international leaders including politicians, dignitaries and star athletes. In addition, Osier will be confronted with practical leadership and ethical scenarios and then challenged to address them individually in a persuasive speech and writing competition as well as collaboratively in an Ethics Bowl tournament.
Osier will also have a chance to earn more than $15,000 in scholarships as well as gain internships and receive letters of recommendation.
Program curriculum is designed around the four core principles that lead now-retired Gen. Tommy Franks through his 38-year military career: character, common vision, communication and caring.
“Since the beginning of the program our main focus has been to invest in the next generation of leaders and to develop the kind of leader who can solve problems and communicate solutions,” said Gen. Franks. “Our program provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity for students to develop leadership skills through team-building exercises, collaboration, spontaneous problem solving and competition. We can’t wait to meet this year’s students!”
