Residents in the Eastside and Lincoln districts of Tacoma have been invited to attend two community meetings today and tomorrow to hear the latest information about the proposed Health and Community building concept. The proposal, which has been cancelled, included combining Pierce County’s Community Connections department with the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department (TPCHD) in a remodeled building on Pacific Avenue. It also included a new location for South Sound 911.
“The concept process worked. We knew there was a possibility we would decide the building was not a good fit for both Community Connections and the Health Department,” said Rick Talbert, District 5 Pierce County Councilmember and TPCHD Vice Chair. “While we weren’t able to fit into the building in a way that made business sense, we remain committed to finding effective, sustainable building solutions for all of the organizations involved. We are disappointed but the process provided us with an opportunity to apply what we’ve learned to future projects. I look forward to keeping the local residents and business owners informed as we talk about long-term development in their community. ”
The next steps for all three organizations have not been determined but options are currently being studied and evaluated.
A community meeting will be held at the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department auditorium on June 29 at noon.Print This Post
