Lakewood Rotarians recently honored Lakes High School senior Nate Birdine as their May Student of the Month.
“Nate is a natural born leader…and a solid student with a servant’s heart who can take his talents in many directions,” wrote Lakes High School principal Kären Mauer-Smith in her nomination of Birdine. She added, “He does not need a title to lead and inspire others.”
While at Lakes, Birdine participated on the football and track teams all four years and is leader of Lakes’ fellowship club and a member of ASB. Nate extends his positive attitude and mentorship to students in the middle schools on his own time and at lunches.
After high school, Birdine plans to be a youth pastor and work with Lakewood area youth. He is also known for his considerable talent in terms of inspiring others and encouraging others to succeed. Mauer-Smith said she secretly hopes that someday he returns to Lakes as a teacher, a career in which he would be exceptional.
The Rotary Club of Lakewood is committed to quality educations for the community’s youth. Throughout the school year, the Club recognizes educators and students in the Clover Park and Steilacoom school districts for their outstanding contributions and efforts.
