By Paul Pastor, Pierce County Sheriff
This is a rare update on a Sheriff’s Log. I am pleased and grateful to announce that the Pierce County Council on Tuesday approved our request for a five person proactive property crimes unit. In the last Sheriff’s Log we encouraged the County Council to do so and we were hopeful that they would.
Yesterday, the County Council stepped forward to strengthen our ability to make Pierce County a safer place to live and to send a message to burglars and other property criminals. The message is that we will not tolerate break-ins and thefts. Not here. Not now.
This is an example of what can be accomplished when the communities of Pierce County, the Sheriff’s Department and the County Council communicate and work together to solve problems.
I am disappointed that the Council did not fund additional Corrections Deputy positions. We will continue to work hard to hire and train applicants for our current openings.
We intend to take these resources and use them well on behalf of the citizens. We will keep you informed of our progress. I am grateful and I am confidently hopeful that we will make a real difference.
