JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. – I Corps will host members of the People’s Liberation Army of China at JBLM in a historic first during this year’s China Disaster Management Exchange, Nov. 16-21.
The DME is a bilateral exchange between the PLA, interagency humanitarian aid and disaster relief organizations and multiple military branches and components. China hosted the last DME in the Guangzhou Military Region, China Jan. 12-19, 2015. The DME focuses on humanitarian assistance / disaster response scenarios and improves U.S. and Chinese military interoperability.
The focus of the DMEs has adapted to ever-changing and complex environments over the years, with focus on real world scenarios, increasing the collaborative capacity and ability to respond to natural and manmade disasters for both militaries. The exchange is part of USARPAC’s Pacific Resilience initiative to prepare U.S. forces to assist global partners in the event of major disasters.
