Tacoma – On Thursday night, November 12, 2015, three 2016 Washington State Lieutenant Governor candidates will speak and meet voters at a free forum held as part of the November Pierce County Democrats meeting. Democratic candidates Jim Moeller, Karen Fraser, and Cyrus Habib will each make brief remarks and then take questions. Fraser and Habib are State Senators and Moeller is a State Representative. The public is encouraged to attend the event at the IBEW Local 76 Hall, 3049 S. 36th Street, Tacoma, WA 98409. The meeting begins at 7:00, with the candidates expected to speak starting at approximately 7:45 p.m.
Linda Isenson, Chair of the Pierce County Democrats, noted that “the Lieutenant Governor position is a significant statewide office, but many people may not know much about the duties of the job.” Ms. Isenson stated that “we are excited to present this opportunity for local voters to get to know more about the Lieutenant Governor’s office and the candidates running to fill it.
Senator Habib represents the 48th Legislative District, which includes Bellevue, Kirkland, and Redmond. A graduate of Columbia, Oxford, and the Yale Law School, Senator Habib is the first Iranian-American elected to a state office in the United States, and has been blind since age 8.
Senator Fraser represents the 22nd Legislative District, which includes Olympia, Lacey, and Tumwater. The Senate Democratic Caucus Chair, Senator Fraser has served 22 years in the Senate, and has held many other public offices, including Thurston County Commissioner and the Mayor of Lacey.
State Representative Jim Moeller is in his sixth term representing the 49th Legislative District, which includes Vancouver. Representative Moeller is the House Speaker Pro Tempore, served two terms on the Vancouver City Council, and is also a Chemical Dependency Counselor.
The Pierce County Democrats meet monthly, either as a general membership or Executive Board meeting. The public is always welcome to participate. The meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month, at the IBEW Local 76 Hall, 3049 S. 36th Street, Tacoma, WA 98409. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for snacks and socializing; the meeting begins at 7:00 p.m.
