TACOMA – Drivers will soon see permanently-adjusted speed limits along segments of State Route 16 in Tacoma. The speed limits are being returned to urban highway speeds following completion of the Westbound and Eastbound Nalley Valley construction projects, which are part of the Tacoma-Pierce County HOV program.
New speed limit locations:
- On westbound SR 16 from Interstate 5 at milepost 0.0 to milepost 1.14 near Union Avenue, the speed limit will increase from 50 mph to 60 mph.
- On eastbound SR 16 from milepost 0.86 near Union Avenue to I-5 at milepost 0.0, the 40 mph speed limit will increase to 50 mph.
- On eastbound SR 16 from milepost 4 near SR 163 (Pearl Street) to milepost 0.86 near Union Avenue, the 55 mph speed limit will rise to 60 mph.
New speed limit signs are scheduled to be posted during the week of Oct. 25. The adjusted speed boundaries will be enforceable as soon as the signs are installed.
